Recently a Forbes article talking about conscious leadership distinguished two types of leaders:
- Sleeping beauty leaders whom no fairytale prince would come and wake up.
- Wide awake leaders setting intentions and acting responsibly.
According to the author, waking up, starting the journey to conscious leadership and being more mindful of our impact is a choice.
As much as I agree with the choice part, I believe that the frame of mind from which you make that choice can lead to very different options. We all view the world from a specific mental model that shapes the way we think and then act. What triggers the waking up is the awareness of our current meaning making system and the desirability to move to another one. In developmental psychology that shift means the ability to explore the boundaries of our current mental model and operate from another level of consciousness (of oneself, others and the world).
The journey to conscious leadership certainly takes more than a wake up call, however it is one that is definitely worthwhile.
Do you know which consciousness level you are at in your leadership journey? Are you willing to find out and grow your presence and impact? Let’s discuss!
